Street Furniture 5.5
The 5.5 project is about the experience of a so called multi-hand design process initiated by the municipality of Asolo together with a partner company. The city of Asolo decided to organize a participatory design workshop to reinterpret the topic of street furniture and the design of public spaces through it. The workshop saw the participation of administrative technical offices, external consultants, and associations. Results were presented as series of micro-interventions to redevelop parking spaces and meeting places. 593 Studio proposed the prototype of an integrated system of urban furniture referred to as 5.5. The name refers to the basic dimensional module of the prototype elements (bench, basket, planter). These elements also were presented at the 2009 Salone del Mobile in collaboration with Gruppo Sintesi S.p.A.
The origin of the 5.5 dimensional modul that guides the project origins from the analysis of the basic form of the formwork made to built the arch Brion of architect Carlo Scarpa; this reference is an homage to the indelible imprint that Scarpa left in this city.
