Housing | Milano

Housing Contest Milan is a joint initiative of various actors linked to the public construction market. The competition entry emerged from the idea of creating an adaptable system for the creation of quality projects that is suitable to draw sustainable solutions and economically coherent for the reference market. The elaborated proposal, that is referred to as the linear house, takes up the typological and formal elements of the great Italian masters of the early 1900s: built-in balconies, openings, overhangs, stairwells, act as primary factors in the overall composition of the building and as space generators for both private and public quality. The overall image that derives from this is that of a body of a building, in which slight compositional exceptions characterize the open façades towards the public space. At the same time drawing a fluid and permeable ground attack, in which the accesses to the common spaces become an opportunity to create a a small elevated square, or a cycle path or a community hall. The structural system involves the use of the plywood boards (XLam system), that are coupled with exposed reinforced concrete elements. To the building design as a whole underlies an integrated logic of energy saving and renewable energy production strategies, with a special focus on geothermal and photovoltaic technologies.
