Tourist Resort | Venezuela

This project originated from the initiative of a team of international investors. It seeks to identify the possibilities of a progressive and sustainable tourist development for a coastal area of the Macanao peninsula located northwest of the island of Margarita, the largest of the Caribbean islands of the Venezuelan archipelago of Nueva Esparta. The initial concept is based on a modular system of residential units combined according to a pattern in which the open space, defined by a veranda and the horizontal distribution, acts as a generator for apartments ranging from 50 to 150 square meters. These apartments are arranged along the slope of a hill overlooking the sandy coast of the island, orientated to the heliothermal axis in order to offer the best possible solar exposure to each accommodation. Technically and structurally, dry building technologies and light wooden prefabrication systems are used. Each residential block is equipped with a meteoric water storage system and a solar heat production plant. The overall architectural image seeks to define a slender and minimal roof profile as a salient element of a volumetric composition in relation to the surrounding landscape.
