New Provincial Building | Bolzano
The competition for the new headquarters in the province of Bolzano has brought 593 Studio together in an international multidisciplinary research activity with Task Architekten, located in Berlin. The proposed concept starts from the geomorphological peculiarities of the Bolzano basin and the green valley profile, set between the slopes of the hills that surround it. Within the design process, the resulting planimetric image became an ideogram of the territorial conformation of the city of Bolzano, which, extended vertically, appears as a strongly connoted landmark. The energy concept transformes this landmark image into a comprehensive volumetric articulation shaped according to the needs of integrated sustainability, containment of energy consumption and use of passive energy supplies during the year. The theoretical and material fulcrum of the building’s energy setting is the central split, the green terrace that is an echoe of the image of the basin, that is crossed by the rivers Isarco and Adige. The materials used meet the global standards of sustainability, starting with the light reflecting concrete named BlingCrete used for the exterior cladding, characterized by high durability and resistance to atmospheric agents, able to age with the building without losing architectural and performance qualities.
